Janani Suraksha Yojana is an important scheme launched by the Government of India, which aims to provide financial assistance to poor pregnant women for safe delivery and to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate.

- Objective:
- To encourage poor pregnant women to opt for institutional delivery.

- Financial assistance for institutional delivery (around Rs 1,000).

- Delivery facility by trained midwives.
- Eligibility:
- Pregnant women living below the poverty line.
- Every beneficiary registered under the scheme must have MCH card and Janani Suraksha Yojana card.
- Process:
- Delivery is arranged under the supervision of ANM by ASHA worker or other contact worker.
- Delivery is arranged under the supervision of the medical officer of the primary health centre.
- Mother Child Protection Program (JSSK):
- Following the Janani Suraksha Yojana, the Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) was launched in June 2011 to eliminate out-of-pocket expenses for pregnant women and sick infants.
- The mother and her newborn baby are provided with necessary care within 48 hours.
